September 18, 2012 – Los Angeles, CA – Contur (www.contur.co), the most effective way to manage your email, today announced that its innovative solution to prioritize the inbox has launched in private beta. The Contur app lets users treat any of their emails as tasks, organize them by projects, and add notes and non-email related tasks. Contur makes email more manageable and easier to put into context, manipulate, prioritize and search, moving users closer to “Inbox Zero.”
“Contur is aimed at the 90 million knowledge workers and professionals in the United States who are experiencing email overload,” said Contur co-founder and CEO Justyna Wójcik. “Contur takes email beyond such outdated tools as tags and priority inboxes, which have long lost their power to help users not only tackle the ever-growing volume of their incoming email, but to act on that volume as well.”
Contur is especially pitched at professional “power users” who receive more than 100 emails each day. The app is designed to make the email inbox a complete productivity interface – particularly for those who use email for their business – with enhancements that include a to-do list directly integrated into the inbox and sidebar grouping of all attachments received.
“The demand is high for a solution like Contur to manage email inboxes; 500 people have already signed up on the Contur waitlist. In the United States alone, over a billion dollars are lost each year due to workers having to do necessary, but unproductive, tasks related to email, such as organizing them, keeping track of follow-ups, and other tasks. Contur will help recover some of that lost time and revenue,” added Wójcik.
The app is initially available for Windows desktop systems, with plans to arrive soon on Mac, web browsers and mobile platforms. Contur automatically syncs in the cloud and provides full support with GMail accounts and plans to expand to other popular webmail services soon. Contur is working on eventually using semantic sorting to do much of its work automatically, based on the user’s initial interaction with the app. Once the testing phase is complete, Contur’s semantic algorithms will scan all incoming emails to simultaneously determine importance and placement.
Contur is one in the latest crop of companies to launch out of StartEngine, the Los Angeles-based accelerator led by former Activision co-founder and executive Howard Marks.
“StartEngine has invested in Contur because of an extraordinary team of talented technologists and business people. Email management has thus far been one of the biggest headaches for the modern professional, as well as one of the biggest problems for technology to solve, and Contur moves us much closer to taming what is our most vital, but often most chaotic, information stream,” said Marks.
